Installing Custom Cabinets:  Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

First off, you have to be sure about the type of garage cabinets that you want. Choosing between tall cabinets, low cabinets, lockable cabinets, wall hung cabinets, free standing cabinets and cabinets with swinging or sliding doors depends on convenience and functionality.
For instance, if you want to install wall hung garage cabinets, you should measure your garage from wall to the car space with an allowance for the swinging of car doors. Tall cabinets on the other hand, are suitable if you have a lot of vertical space. One lockable cabinet is advisable to keep pesticides and harmful tools out of the reach of children, while low and free standing cabinets are great as their tops provide great work space. Although sliding doors are preferable when your garage is small, they offer access to only half the width of your cabinet.
Other considerations to make are how many items you will be storing in the cabinets as well as the material of your cabinet. Garage storage cabinets can be made of either plastic/resin, wood or metal. While wood is more appealing to the eye especially due to the laminated top finish, it is highly susceptible to moisture and should be therefore, used only when your area is low moisture and unlikely to leak or flood. Plastic and resin on the other hand is highly resistant to moisture, mostly comes pre-assembled and is light to boot. However, it can not withstand great loads and should be used for items that are not heavy. Most metal cabinets have variety of finishes and may come equipped with wheels which make them convenient for reorganizing and cleaning.

Organizing Your Cabinets

Once you install your cabinets, Boxing the small tools and items such as nuts and screws according to size or functionality is paramount in order to easily reach them as well as avoid clutter in the cabinets. Adjustable drawers in the cabinet provide space for bigger and heavier items and placing hanging hooks on the below or on the sides of the cabinets creates even more options for storage. Needless to say, garage storage cabinets are paramount to a well organized garage.

What to Consider Before You Buy Garage Storage Cabinets

Most homeowners dread the idea of clearing out the garage and making it a much more organized place. Indeed if you look in most garages you'll find a dumping ground for everything that no one wants lying around in the house; that box of old toys or clothes, holiday decorations, old bikes and tools to mention but a few.  A lot of people forget that the garage is only supposed to be for your car or truck.   However, there are ways to transform the cluttered garage full of unwanted items that you have today to a more organized work space cum parking space that you would enjoy looking at and spending time in.
Lack of storage space being the bane of garage organization, is the first thing to consider when embarking on the journey to organizing your garage. Finding an efficient storage solution is the answer to all your clutter problems. And what could be more efficient than cabinets? Not only do garage storage cabinets provide you with a secure reliable storage system, but some also double work surfaces on top.

Deciding on Your Storage Solution

When you are about to install garage storage cabinets, you should start by clearing out the clutter. This follows the policy that if you have not used something in the past year, then you are unlikely to use it again in a long time. By deciding what things you want to keep and the ones that you could either sell in a garage sale, donate to charity or send for recycling, you can then begin to sort them in terms of their use. For example, a pile for all sports related equipment and paraphernalia, while another would do for all garden tools, fertilizers and pesticides among others. Another thing to consider is to make any repairs you might have been wanting to but had not gotten round to do it. For example, if you want to spruce up your garage walls by giving them a fresh coat of paint, then this is the perfect moment to take that chance.
While most people are attracted to the shelves' spot-grab-go convenience, they are not only harder to organize but after a while the clutter will be visible which in the case of cabinets wouldn't. However, there are several more factors to consider before installing garage storage cabinets.

Garage Cabinets: Remove Your Holiday Clutter

Holidays enrich our lives.  While they can be incredibly stressful, they help us to pass the seasons.  If you celebrate holidays, one way to celebrate them other than convivial pursuits is to decorate for the holidays.  Thanksgiving thankfully doesn't have that much in the way of decor, a few ceramic turkeys a couple of gravy boats, and you're good. In addition, some holidays such as Hannukah, and Kwanzaa don't require an excessive amount of decorations either.  However, it is all made up for with holidays such as Diwali in Hinduism and Christmas in Christian circles.   So your garage storage cabinets can be the place to store them when the holiday is winding down.
In some neighborhoods, there can be a competition of sorts, where homeowners try to out Christmas their neighbors.  Sometimes the light and holiday displays can be so bright you can see them from orbit, figuratively speaking of course.  Why you might need garage cabinets is simple.  Here is a list of things that you might find as part of typical holiday items:  wreaths, ornaments, artificial Christmas trees, Christmas lights in different sizes and types, lighted lawn displays, candle holders, table centerpieces, holiday tablecloths, surplus Christmas cards, and so much more.  However, it isn't just Christmas that has a lot of decorations that take up space.  There is also Halloween.

Holiday Decorations and Storage Space

As we covered in a previous article, Thanksgiving doesn't take up too much in the way of storage space.  A few table displays, a couple of ceramic pilgrims and turkeys and that's about it.  However, guess what holiday is the second most popular one to decorate for?  It's Halloween.  In the US alone, this year, Americans spend $7.4 billion on Halloween costumes, candy and above all else, decorations.  When Halloween ends, just like any holiday, you have to take your decorations down and store them somewhere.  One of the best places to store them is in your garage, but not just in cardboard boxes and stackable plastic bins.  You're going to need additional storage space.
One way that is a good way to get more storage space is simple.  You just need to install garage cabinets.
